The current dispute between Qatar and its neighbors is about Qatar’s foreign policy, our sovereignty, and our independence. It has nothing to do with terrorism or terror financing. Qatar’s principles of openness and tolerance have put our policies and positions in conflict with those of our neighbors.
The smear campaign against Qatar in the media and the hacking of Qatar’s official news website were planned well in advance and were intended to set the stage for the blockade and the “non-negotiable” demands from blockading countries.
We now know that the hacking of Qatar News Agency on 24 May 2017 was carried out in the United Arab Emirates. This criminal act represents a clear violation and breach of international law and of the bilateral and collective agreements signed between the member states of the GCC.
This entire assault on Qatar’s sovereignty was based on a hoax, and the credibility of the blockading nations has been shattered.
Any issues can and should be solved through dialogue and discussion; the illegal blockade is now the biggest obstacle standing in the way of a just and fair resolution of our differences.
We call on the blockading countries to end the blockade immediately, so that discussions can begin.
